DANIEL BRENAN (1796 - 1876)
Daniel Brenan was a Prince Edward Island land surveyor, merchant, banker, politician, public lecturer and a developer of real estate, born at Ballinakill, Queens County, Ireland (now Leinst er Province). Immigrating to Prince Edward Island at the age of 27, he became one of the leading importers here; but his main concern was his retail enterprises for which he built brick stores, including this structure, between 1845 and 1866. One of the best known Island citizens throughout his life, Mr. Brenan was a prominent Roman Catholic who served as an elected member of the legislature and later was appointed a member of the government’s Executive Council.
